Çalık Group bought 60% stake in 2006 in Kombëtare Tregtare, one of the longest established banks in Albania with a history dating back to 1925, before acquiring it entirely in 2009. As of 2014, BKT increased its market share to 26% as the largest bank in the country, becoming the bank with the highest market share among the Turkish banks operating overseas.
