Çalık Holding completed its investment, which is one of the largest power plants of Iraq with 1,250 MW capacity at Karbala Al-Khairat Region of Iraq. "The power plant will enlighten the entire Euphrates Region." said Hussain al-Shahristani, Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq.
Çalık Holding completed the construction of 1,250 MW power plant at Karbala Al-Khairat Region of Iraq. The power plant that will supply one fifth of the Iraqi electricity is one of the largest power plants in the country. Completed by Çalık Enerji in two years, the power plant is considered as one ofthe most important infrastructure projects in the restructuring of Iraq. At the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq, Hussain al-Shahristani stated his expectations for this power plant to supply electricity to the entire Euphrates Region. "I want to thank all those who made this investment and put their efforts. I wish previously constructed plants were just like this. The power plant will begin to supply electricity to the grid starting from the fifth month. And the four turbines will begin to operate next month." said Shahristani.
Electricity to 5 million people
With this power plant, 24 hour continuous electricity will be supplied to a total of 5 million people at Karbala, Babel, Najaf and Kazimiye regions. The Energy Minister of Iraq, Karim Aftan stated that the electricity will begin to be provided continuous starting from July. And according to the statements of Aftan, the entire Iraq will get electricity as of 2014.
Atmosphere of welfare
Çalık Holding Chairman, Ahmet Çalık thanked Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri El-Maliki, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani, Iraqi Electricity Minister Karim Aftan and Karbala Governor for their supports. "These steps , these huge investments, these great efforts that you show for the reconstruction of Iraq are all very important for the welfare of Iraqi people. And not just by Iraqi people, these will always be welcomed with praise and gratitude by the people of the entire region that will be affected positively from this new atmosphere of peace and welfare." said Mr. Çalık.

Ahmet Çalık also attracted attention to the fact that they managed to bring the Al-Khairat Power Plant to a position that can provide national electricity in a very short amount of time like 2 years. "And the 750 MW Nainowa Natural Gas Cycle Power Plant whose construction we are continuing will be completed in May and thus we will be providing an electricity capacity of 2,000 MW to the country. We are pleased to undertake both of these investments." said Mr. Çalık.

Karbala Governor, Amal al deen Al-Hir also attended the opening ceremony. The Governor also made a speech and thanked Çalık Holding. "Those, who built this plant, will be remembered with gratitude by all region people. And we will continue to work together. We would also like to thank for the contribution made to the employment of the local people with this investment."
