Çalık Enerji's Al Khairat Power Plant project in Iraq was awarded as the best global project in the industrial sector by the New York-based "Engineering News Record" Magazine, a publication regarded as one of the most prestigious organizations in the contracting and engineering sector. The award was presented to Çalık Enerji's General Manager Dr. Osman Saim Dinç in the ceremony held in New York.
Çalık Enerji, a Çalık Holding affiliate, won the first prize with its project delivered in Iraq, in the Oscars of contracting and engineering world. The company was granted the "Best Global project" award in the industrial category with its Al Khairat Power Plant project delivered in Karbala Region. The award was presented to Çalık Enerji's General Manager Dr. Osman Saim Dinç on behalf of Çalık Enerji in the award ceremony "Gala Night" held in New York as part of the ENR Global Summit.
Çalık Enerji won this award by overtaking the US-based Bechtel, which is currently the leading company in the world's biggest companies ranking maintaining its 1st place for 15 years in a row in the world's biggest construction and engineering companies ranking of ENR, a magazine published by McGraw-Hill Group, which also owns Standard and Poors (S&P) as a group company. General Manager Dr. Osman Saim Dinç received the award on behalf of Çalık Enerji and commented that it is not only the government's responsibility to facilitate peace and welfare in the globalized world. "We would be very glad if we could contribute to the facilitation of peace and comfort thanks to the energy networks we have installed to light up the cities."
Electricity Introduced In Fırat Region
Çalık Enerji's General Manager Dr. Osman Saim Dinç underlined that Al Khairat Power Plant is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the reconstruction of Iraq and noted, "Al Khairat Power Plant will supply the one fourth of Iraq's electricity need and it is currently the largest plant in the country. Operating at full capacity since October, the plant provides 24-hour uninterrupted electricity to a total of 5 million people in Karbala, Babylon, Najaf and Kazima regions of Iraq. The plant uses 10x GE 9E model turbines to produce power. In addition, we have started construction of a second power plant in Mosul, North Iraq. It is largely completed. We have plans to commission the plant soon."
Çalık Enerji Named The Ninth Giant In The World
Çalık Enerji's General Manager Dr. Osman Saim Dinç highlighted that Turkey is located between the Middle East and Caspian Region countries holding around three fourths of global oil and gas reserves and the largest consumer countries in Europe and emphasized that the primary operating area of Çalık Enerji focuses on this region. Dinç added, "We have determined our activity area as the Balkans, Eastern Europe, CIS states as well as countries across the Middle East and Africa. We currently have hydroelectric, gas, fossil-fuelled production plants either ongoing or completed in Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Libya and Iraq. This award has once again strongly demonstrated the international quality of Çalık Enerji, which increased from rank 129 to 111 in the "Top 250 International Contractors" list published every year by Engineering News Record and became the 9th largest company in the world in the fossil-fueled power plant sector.
World giants competed for the award
The Best Global Project awards are given every year traditionally by the Engineering News Record Magazine published by the US-based McGraw-Hill Group by determining and publishing the largest 225 contracting companies in the world. The award won by Çalık Enerji with its 1,259-MW Al Khairat Power Plant project delivered in Karbala, Iraq as the biggest power plant in the country is recognized as the Oscars of engineering and construction in the world. In the 'Industrial Plant' category where the first prize was awarded to Çalık Enerji, the American contracting company Bechtel, won the "Award of Merit", which is considered as the second prize, with its casting factory in Saudi Arabia.
